Emily Grahn is an Associate Lecturer and Research Candidate with James Cook University.  Emily began her career in the United States of America as a Microbiologist, receiving funding and awards from NASA and the American Society for Microbiology for her work on predatory bacteria and microbial resistance.  She then continued into the biotechnology sector, working on vaccine development and drug therapeutics.  After two years in biotech, she continued on to James Cook University to complete her Master of Public Health and Tropical Medicine.

Emily has since partnered with various departments across JCU. She is a tutor for the Indigenous Education and Research Centre, a research assistant: biostatistician for public health policy research, and an associate lecturer for undergraduate and postgraduate courses within the College of Medicine and Dentistry, focusing on research methods, biostatistics, and epidemiology.

Emily is currently in her HDR candidacy for research in Parasitology and Neglected Tropical Diseases. Her project involves creating a new diagnostic using wastewater to inform action and create a functional surveillance system for intestinal parasites. Her research is funded through a TAAHC grant and JCU's Postgraduate Research Scholarship.
