Biography
Emily Grahn is an Associate Lecturer and Research Candidate with James Cook University. Emily began her career back in the United States of America as a Microbiologist, where she recieved funding and awards from NASA and the American Society for Microbiology for her work in predatory bacteria and microbial resistance. She then continued into the biotechnology sector, where she worked on vaccine development and drug therapeutics. After two years in biotech, she continued on to James Cook Univeristy to complete her Master of Public Health and Tropical Medicine.
Emily has since partnered with various departments across JCU. She is a tutor for the Indigenous Education and Research Centre, a research assistant: biostatistician for public health policy research, as well as an associate lecturer for both undergraduate and postgraduate courses within the College of Medicine and College of Public Health, Medical, and Veterinary Sciences.
Emily is currently in her HDR candidacy for research within the field of Parasitology and Neglected Tropical Disease. Her project encompases the creation of a new diagnostic utilising wastewater, to inform action and create a funcitonal surveillance system for soil transmitted helminths. Her research is funded through a TAAHC grant, as well as JCU's Postgraduate Research Scholarship.
