Courtney Burns

Courtney is deeply passionate about ocean Country health and an advocate for the use of diverse knowledge for shark conservation. Courtney's goal as an early career researcher is to be able to change the way the world sees sharks, with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledge and priorities at the forefront of this research.

She is currently employed with CSIRO's Indigenous Graduate Program undertaking a Master of Philosophy (Indigenous) at James Cook University with the Indigenous Education & Research Centre (IERC), in partnership with AIMS@JCU. Her undergraduate research with the Physioshark project focus' on the body condition of neonatal blacktip reef sharks (C. melanopterus), in Mo'orea, French Polynesia.
