Biography
Adjunct Professor Betsy Jackes AM is an Australian systematic botanist, lecturer, and past Dean of Science, and past deputy head of then-School of Tropical Biology at JCU.
Her interest is principally in the family Vitaceae (native grapes), Myrsinaceae, and Australian tropical vegetation. She is presently running the JCU online subject 'Australian land plants recognition, evolution, and diversity' (BZ5650).
In 2021, Dr Jackes became the sixth-ever awardee of JCU's Doctor of Science honoris causa for her sustained contributions to discovering and cataloguing tropical flora in northern Queensland, continued work with plant systematics and the ecology of the tropical flora.
Recent publications to the community include Plants of the Burra Range (2021) and Plants of Magnetic Island (reprinted 2022). She presently assists in maintaining JCU's Discover Nature.
