Abstract

The Tully-Johnstone Wetland Monitoring Project, initiated in July 2023, aimed to fill knowledge gaps on the hydrological and contaminant dynamics at two Wet Tropics constructed wetlands. Monitoring undertaken assessed the efficacy of a constructed ‘landscape’ wetland in Tully (LW01) at removing dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN) and sediment from agricultural runoff. Supplemental hydrological investigations were undertaken at a second constructed wetland (CW02) in the Moresby River catchment (near Mourilyan), to better understand the complex hydrology at the site. The Tully (LW01) and Moresby (CW02) wetlands were constructed in 2019 and were monitored for nitrogen removal efficacy during the Wet Tropics Major Integrated Project (2018-2021). CW02 underwent a further 18 months of monitoring from November 2021 to June 2023, with support from the Queensland Government Office of the Great Barrier Reef.
