Abstract

[Extract] The Scientific Consensus Statement (SCS) on land use impacts on Great Barrier Reef (GBR) water quality and ecosystem condition brings together scientific evidence to understand how land-based activities can influence water quality in the GBR, and how these influences can be managed. The SCS is used as a key evidence-based document by policymakers when they are making decisions about managing GBR water quality. In particular, the SCS provides supporting information for the design, delivery and implementation of the Reef 2050 Water Quality Improvement Plan (Reef 2050 WQIP) which is a joint commitment of the Australian and Queensland governments. The Reef 2050 WQIP describes actions for improving the quality of the water that enters the GBR from the adjacent catchments. The SCS is updated periodically with the latest peer reviewed science.
