Abstract

In Géraldine Le Roux’s book L’Art des ghostnets : Approche anthropologique et esthétique des filets-fantômes, Le Roux offers a comprehensive voyage across continents as well as a personal invitation to zoom into relatively invisible geographies, such as ‘l’île d’Erub(Darnley Island)’ (39) or communities like Mapoon and Yirrkala. Indeed, starting from Australia but rapidly extending to the rest of Oceania and reaching out to America and Europe, Le Roux creates fluid bridges or ‘portes d’entrée’ (29) between the lands and the seas, Indigenous and non Indigenous cultures, the sciences and the arts, as well as the human and nonhuman worlds by capturing with eloquence the stories of those who have quietly learnt to transform toxic garbage into exceptional treasures.
