Abstract

[Extract] The past two years have seen the impacts of the pandemic on every aspect of human life. People have lost their loved ones, businesses have closed down, social movements have been disrupted, and the future has become more uncertain. The lesson we learned is not just about how poorly the world has responded to this calamity, or the need to prepare the world for the next outbreak, but is also about the meaning of human existence. In his seminal book—“Existential Psychotherapy”, the American psychiatrist Yalom (1980) describes the four ultimate concerns that all of us would face at some points in life: freedom, isolation, meaninglessness, and death. We are now already facing up to these existential givens.
