Abstract

It was concerns over the financial stability of many European football clubs in the early part of the 21st century that saw the governing body, the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA), introduce the Financial Fair Play Regulations (FFPR) in 2010. While it can be argued the FFPR achieved their objective of providing financial stability, COVID-19 forced UEFA to postpone their enforcement for the 2019–20 season. UEFA has also announced that it will review the FFPR at the end of 2021 and is considering removing the break-even requirement.
