Abstract

Jamie Fellows investigated the US Army's war crimes trials that were conducted in Manila from 1945-1947. The central question posed in his thesis asks how the jurisprudential approaches to criminal responsibility at the Manila trials contributes to, or provides guidance for other war crimes trials. Jamie's research provides useful insights into the complexities and legal dilemmas associated with, for example, broadening the defences of superior orders and military necessity and making superiors liable for the acts of their subordinates.
