Inventoried and expressed vocational interest among persons with mild intellectual sisability: the Singapore experience
Conference Contribution ResearchOnline@JCUAbstract
Vocational training and developmental needs of persons with intellectual disabilities has gained increasing attention in many developed and developing countries in recent years (Wu, Qiu, Wong, Hernandez, & Zhao, 2010; Butterworth et al., 2011). In Singapore, access to vocational training and job opportunities for persons with intellectual disabilities has improved too in recent years. Many special education schools and social care agencies are developing and creating suitable assessment processes and tools to meet this increasing need. In particular, trainers and psychologists took keen interests in learning about vocational interests of students and clients they are serving. The current study conducted in a special education school, which specializes in vocational training and work placement for persons with mild intellectual disability aimed at exploring the relationship between inventoried and expressed vocational (VC) interests and their impact on the allocation of VC training pathways.
