Abstract

This chapter explains how a sense of harm or injury is perceived by the experiencing person as pain. It provides an understanding of the pain process including transduction, transmission, modulation and perception. The presentation of information has practical application keeping the reader grounded in a real world understanding of the pain experience. The target audience for this book chapter are healthcare students.
