Abstract

When the demand for services exceeds supply, sustainable workforce solutions are essential for continued health service provision. This paper examines the influence of management practices and HR Outcomes on the sustainability of remote health workforces (SRHW). This quantitative study disseminated an online questionnaire to health professionals working in remote regions of northern Australia. The findings from this study provide further evidence that managers play a vital role in achieving the desired HR outcomes. HR outcomes moderated the relationship between management practices and the achievement of a SRHW providing valuable insights for health service organisations. Therefore, where there are contemporary HR practice challenges and contextual considerations, effective management practices are critical to the realisation of sustainable remote health workforces.
