Abstract
[Extract] Tropical forests play a large and important role in the global carbon cycle. In temperate ecosystems, increasing atmospheric CO(2) concentrations have been widely observed to promote plant growth and increase the efficiency of water use in plants. Whether or not forest trees in the tropics also respond positively to future increases in atmospheric CO(2) could be a crucial determinant of how the global carbon cycle responds to a changing climate.
