Abstract
[Extract] We write in response to a recent article by Till et al. in your journal [1], in which the authors conclude that a mannose-binding lectin (MBL) cut-off of 0.5 mcg/mL identifies MBL2 variant alleles with 100% sensitivity and 83% specificity and that MBL concentrations are increased significantly after esophagectomy. The correlation of MBL concentration with MBL2 structural variant alleles alone and the small sample size of this study (n = 20) are problematic.
