Abstract

Traditionally, veterinary education has been divided into a series of subjects and disciplines. While there are elements of integration included in many veterinary undergraduate degree programs, few examples exist of more holistic approaches within veterinary education. This presentation will explore "Sheep Week", an innovative and authentic learning activity which enables students to develop and apply knowledge, skills and attitudes as part of a real-world experience. All Australasian veterinary schools are pressured to produce all-round graduates that are able to meet the challenges of a changing workplace in the twenty-first century. This session will look at a learning opportunity which is designed around what veterinarians do rather than on specific disciplines. It will focus on the design and academic process that underpins "Sheep Week" and will highlight the positive impact the program has on the students' motivation, learning and transition towards a professional career.
