Abstract

[Extract] For beginning researchers, planning to undertake a qualitative study is motivated by a range of factors. For some it is a requirement of their employment that they achieve a PhD, the highest degree that a university awards. For others, engaging in this type of work results from a long-held desire to exercise their intellect; while curiosity is a characteristic that all potential researchers display. Once the decision is made to commence, most people experience trepidation at the prospect, quickly followed by frustration with university processes.
