Abstract

[Extract] In recent decades China has experienced unprecedented economic growth and has emerged as a powerful, influential player on the global stage. More than ever before, there is great interest in the Western society in how to better understand the psychological and social processes that characterize Chinese people. Books on Chinese psychology that have emerged over the past 20 years have tended to focus on the psychologies of Chinese people in Hong Kong, Taiwan and other regions. Few delve into psychology in China and Chinese psychology in other regions in a single volume. There is hence a need for such a general reference text. The Oxford Handbook of Chinese Psychology edited by Professor Michael Bond bridges the gap.
