Abstract

[Extract] Intrusion of saltwater in coastal aquifer hinders its beneficial use as a source of water. The specific aim of coastal aquifer management may involve the design of a spatiotcmporal pumping strategy to meet demands. while controlling the intrusion process, also through planned pumping. Many coastal aquifers, i.e., aquifers hydraulically connected with the ocean, can be used as major operational reservoirs in water resources systems. Development of such reservoirs for supply of water is very common in many parts of the world. The exploitation of these reservoirs is restricted in many cases, because of seawater intrusion in to the coastal aquifers. Saltwater intrusion in coastal aquifers is global problem.
