Abstract

Purpose: To identify and outline an approach to simulation and scenario development that is appropriate for cardiorespiratory physiotherapy simulation. Method: A review of the literature was undertaken to identify appropriate articles. Following this, a format for writing simulation scenarios was developed and trialled, and twenty-one third-year physiotherapy students and the trial facilitator were then asked to provide feedback. Results: Fifteen of twenty-one students responded to the request for feedback. Students reported that the format of the scenarios provided a good learning experience, helping to build their assessment, treatment and note writing skills. The facilitator also reported that the simulated experience was a good progression from classroom to clinical learning. Conclusion: This is the first identified article outlining a method for developing physiotherapy simulation scenario development. The process appears to have been appropriate for cardiorespiratory physiotherapy simulation.
