Abstract

Imagine Cairns has been created to engage youth and young artists in Far North Queensland, Australia. By creating an online profile participants can share artworks within a peer community dedicated to the arts. As a member of the Imagine Cairns community participants have the ability to get recognition from peers for creative achievements and even have the opportunity to be rewarded by getting art showcased on art cards and wearable magazines! Other opportunities include the chance to participate in the Imagine Cairns Bootcamp where dance, sound, media and visual arts facilitators collude to provide skills in new media, performance and installation. Imagine Cairns also has linkages with the Cairns Entertainment Precinct, a vibrant new social and entertainment heart being planned for residents of Cairns and beyond. In the coming years the precinct will be an artistic target providing the opportunity for young ingenious minds to create exciting contemporary experiences. Will members of Imagine Cairns go on to showcase their work there? Why not! Imagine Cairns is an initiative of Cairns Regional Council (Creative Partnerships) in partnership with James Cook University (School of Creative Arts and School of Information Technology), and Education Queensland’s Regional Excellence in Arts and Culture Hubs (REACH).
