Abstract

[Extract] Introduction: Research has reported that female outrigger canoe paddlers are 26 yrs, weigh 70 kg, have an aerobic capacity of 2.3 L.min^-1 and paddle 250 m in 93 s^1. However there is no comparable data on the female age divisions in this sport. The purpose of this study is to determine whether open-aged and masters female outrigger canoe paddlers differ in body composition and/or cardiorespiratory fitness, and whether these factors affect 1000 m time trial performance. It is hypothesised that the open-aged paddlers will have a slighter and leaner build, have a greater aerobic capacity and will complete the 1000 m time trial faster than the masters paddlers.
