Description
HDR top up scholarship funding for PhD candidate working with JCU and QLD Department of Agriculture and Fisheries (DAF). Project investigates the effect of bycatch reduction devices on sea snakes in the QLD trawl fishery. Student will be involved in broader project with DAF analysing the efficacy of devices on catch numbers and snake health (post-release survival), and assistance with trialing a crew member observer program. This top up scholarship supports the student with additional stipend for living costs over a 3 year PhD duration. Milestones include completion of confirmation of candidature by mid 2024 and substantive progress in analyses by mid 2025, and progress reports to primary partner and funding body. JCU primary supervisor is Dr Naomi Gardiner. $30000 over 3 years. Ethics approval for PhD project already secured. Research funded by DAF, not paid through JCU.
