Description

This project aligns with NCP strategic objectives to build deep knowledge, capability, and connections with the Indo-Pacific. The intended outcomes of the project are to build cultural awareness of our respective (JCU and USP) students through teaching them about culturally responsive pedagogies (CRP). Providing JCU students the opportunity to undertake study abroad as part of completing their Service Learning Projects in ED4493 or ED4460, it is envisioned their engagement will orientate them to ‘actively contribute to the community’ (see JCU Graduate Attributes Statement) upon graduation. Encouraging students to take up a learning abroad experience aligns to Pillar Three of JCU's 2025 International Engagement Strategy, and furthermore provision of opportunities for domestic students to engage with diversity in the community contributes to Pillar Two. As the project is promoting physical activity, an important facet with ‘building a healthy Australia’, and 'supporting healthy and thriving communities' the project aligns to the Australian Government’s priorities and in the Queensland context this project supports building a holistically healthier society through investing into community-led and culturally connected initiatives.
