Description

This session aims to first elaborate on the complexities of educational design, encouraging educators to reflect on their own experiences and the challenges they may have faced. It then seeks to offer concrete, actionable guidance by drawing on concepts from Legitimation Code Theory (LCT), a framework for exploring and shaping educational practices. These tools conceptualise where knowledge practices come from and for what purpose they are used, offering a fresh way of thinking about how practices are brought together in teaching and learning: the main idea here is that educational design requires selection of different forms of knowledge relating to a particular ‘target’ for students to learn. We will explore the affordances of this framework for designing principled teaching and learning experiences and enhancing student engagement and learning outcomes. In doing so, the session aims to engage and provide educators with practical strategies and support, which can empower them in selecting and integrating knowledge practices in ways that enrich the educational experience.”
