English Australia (EA) is the national peak body for English language education in Australia and is conducting a long-term project to develop a competency framework to guide the professional development of aspiring Post-entry English and Academic Language (PEAL) practitioners in Australian universities. Since February 2024, the English Australia Post-entry English and Academic Language Special Interest Group (EA PEAL SIG) has met every three weeks to identify, discuss and refine a list of PEAL practitioner competencies categorised into nine competency dimensions. During this process, I have been actively involved as a volunteer, freely sharing my expertise, and making contributions to the discussion. It is anticipated that the PEAL Practitioner Competency Framework will be published on the English Australia webpage in 2025 and will be instrumental in guiding the professional development of PEAL practitioners across the sector. My role in creating this invaluable resource is evidence of my active involvement and contribution to the work of English Australia and the PEAL SIG.
