Description

This is an annual event that showcases the knowledge of Indigenous Elders and community members, NISEP secondary student leaders, scientists, and science outreach providers. It integrates Indigenous and Western STEM activities. This event acts to increase public understanding and appreciation of STEM. NISEP, hosted by Macquarie University, uses STEM to place Indigenous secondary students in leadership roles at school, community, and university-based events. NISEP aims to give Indigenous students the confidence and motivation to finish school and pursue pathways to tertiary education and employment. NISEP is a unique collective of Aboriginal Elders and community members, university staff and students, school staff, and STEM organizations working to support the educational attainment of Indigenous youth in a meaningful way. More than 98 participated online and my talk was rated excellent and interesting by the audience.
