Description

This media release/news was about parasitic worms, which have a bad reputation, but I have identified small molecules in hookworms that could hold the key to a cure for severely debilitating Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). Disease (IBD). I was the first researcher (not only in Australia but globally) to work with previously unexplored small molecules of gastrointestinal parasites. I and my supervisor Distinguished Prof. Alex Loukas have identified small molecule excretory products that protected mice against colitis and the finding was published in one of the high impact journal - Infections and Immunity.
