Biography
Dr Chae Rose is a Lecturer in Psychology at James Cook University, bringing a wealth of experience from the Royal Australian Navy, community services, and academic, corporate, and not-for-profit sectors. His teaching philosophy emphasises evidence-based learning and practical applications of psychological science, equipping students with skills that bridge theory and real-world practice.
Chae's research is grounded in Situational Action Theory (SAT), exploring how interactions between individuals and their environments influence rule-breaking behaviour. His doctoral research, completed at Queensland University of Technology in collaboration with the University of Cambridge, applied SAT to understand decision-making processes in the context of speeding.
He is now broadening this work to examine other forms of deviant behaviour. Chae is particularly keen to collaborate with researchers and students interested in studying the underlying causes and mechanisms of rule-breaking, as well as those focused on innovative research methods. This includes exploring new approaches for collecting situation-level exposure data and applying alternate analytical techniques, such as Bayesian modelling.
