Biography
- Rachel is interested in diagnostic pathology of infectious & zoonotic diseases of domestic animals, wildlife & humans; the diagnosis of newly emerging endemic, or exotic diseases at the interface of interaction between wildlife, domestic animals & humans. Rachel has a diverse background in Veterinary Science (BVSc, Uni of Qld), Science (BSc (hons) Syd Uni: marine biology, ecology & zoology). Previously worked as a veterinarian at Greencross Vets (Townsville, 3 yrs); as a Senior Veterinarian at Biosecurity QLD, DAF & Tropical & Aquatic Animal Health Laboratory (20 years) to prevent, diagnose & treat diseases of aquatic animals & formulate health management plans for Aquaculture Industries of North Queensland (barramundi, marine prawns, freshwater crayfish, marine lobsters & marine reef fish). The diagnosis of anthropogenic & natural causes of death of marine mammals & sea turtles; Senior Veterinary Officer at Biosecurity Qld Dept of Agriculture & Fisheries: conducted disease investigations of livestock, poultry, wildlife and fish. Other past work as a Marine Biologist (marine sea turtles, fish, coral ecology, education & ecotourism (3 years).

Research Interests
Zoonotic and newly emerging diseases of animals and wildlife, both terrestrial or marine, that may have public health significance. The general pathology of infectious and non-infectious diseases affecting native, domestic, feral, introduced or exotic terrestrial and marine mammals, birds, fish, reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates.
