Biography
§ Marine and Freshwater Ecology, Spatial Science and Oceanography: I am a multi-disciplinary scientist specialising in marine and aquatic ecosystems. My current research looks at the dynamic ecological processes, and the ecological services provided by, marine and coastal habitats. I also examine coastal and oceanic biogeochemical properties and assess their relationship to metocean processes, river flows, and urban/industrial and agricultural terrestrial acitivities on the Great Barrier Reef and Gulf of Carpentaria regions. I have developed algorithms for detecting marine sediment plumes and provided ‘toolkits’ for managers to monitor water quality from satellite imagery, conducted research in marine benthic ecology using remotely operated video and applied climate modelling techniques to quantify impacts of changing climate processes on coastal water quality. I am currently researching the contribution of groundwater to temporary waterholes across northern Australia and I have an interest in analysing spectral light wavelengths reaching benthic habitats (seagrasses, coral reefs) under changing metocean conditions and catchment pollutants along the GBR coast. I welcome inquiries from potential HDR students.
