Biography
Dr Mahmood Sadat-Noori is a Senior Lecturer at the College of Science and Engineering at James Cook University (JCU). He joined JCU in June 2023 to lead the Water Resources Management Program within the College.
Mahmood's research focus lies at the interface between hydrology, water quality and environmental restoration. He investigates surface water - groundwater interactions, and how groundwater and surface water connectivity can influence the quantity and quality of water resources. The outcomes of his research have profound implications for water resources management, offering valuable insights to guide effective management strategies.
Mahmood employs a multi-disciplinary approach to determine the source and fate of contaminates (carbon, nutrients and trace metals) in surface waters, utilising modelling, laboratory experiments, and field investigations. He has expertise in conducting large-scale field investigations and using hydrogeological, hydrochemical, and environmental tracer data (radon and radium) to investigate surface water and groundwater hydrology and quality.
Mahmood is currently an Associate Editor for the Journal of Hydrology (Impact Factor: 6.4), handling manuscripts related to groundwater-surface water interactions, groundwater discharge and water quality.
