Biography

Dr Lynn Woodward is a Senior Lecturer in the College of Medicine & Dentistry. In 2011 she was awarded the Monash WHO Bioethics Fellowship and undertook work in the Ethics in Health Unit of the World Health Organization in Geneva. She has developed an Introductory Bioethics course for medical students and is involved in various other courses delivering lectures on research and clinical ethics. Lynn also worked for the Australian Institute of Tropical Health & Medicine, where she developed the AITHM Biobank and established the research laboratory on Thursday Island. Lynn has a background in laboratory based research, having completed her PhD in the area of vaccine development utilizing genetic engineering techniques.

Lynn is interested in a range of research areas, including the involvement of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in biobanks, and was involved with the community consultation for QIMR’s Genomic Partnerships: Guidelines for genomic research with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples of Queensland. She is also interested in the education of medical, allied health and science students in the ethical considerations of their work, their research and their community involvement.

Lynn currently chairs the Human Research Ethics Committees for Metro North Hospital and Health Service, and sits on the HREC for the Townsville Hospital and Health Service and is a member of the Cairns Hospital Clinical Ethics forum. She is also a member of the Gene Technology Ethics and Community Consultative Committee (GTECCC).
