Biography

Heather has been a midwife since 1990 and transitioned to academia in 2012. Her primary career objective is to foster positive outcomes for childbearing women. Originally from Victoria, Heather relocated to take up a position as Senior Lecturer Nursing & Midwifery at JCU in 2023. She has over a decade's experience in midwifery research and was awarded a PhD in 2022. Heather's thesis explored the implementation of a breastfeeding peer support intervention in a multisite RCT undertaken by a team led by Professor Della Forster. She has lived and worked in rural and regional communities for most of her life and has a genuine commitment and respect for those served by regional universities.
