Sminto Augustine

A Geochemist, currently handling a multifaceted role as a Technical Officer, focussing mainly on analytical geochemistry. With experience in both laboratory and field-based research, I am keen to apply advanced sample processing and analytical techniques to uncover geochemical processes.  

At JCU, I focus primarily on sample processing and data acquisition, majorly undertaking geochemical analyses for external clients. This includes trace element and isotope characterization of rock, sediment and ground water samples, contributing to fields such as resource exploration, environmental monitoring and paleoclimate reconstruction. My responsibilities also include managing the laboratory operations, ensuring data quality control and operating a handful of analytical instruments such as TQ-ICP-MS, MC-ICP-MS and ESI SeaFAST(our newest addition). I work closely with researchers, geologists and environmental scientists to support laboratory workflows and generate high-quality geochemical data. 

I strive to deliver accurate, high-quality data that supports sound scientific and operational decisions.
