Biography

In the Bachelor of Medicine Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) program, Simone teaches social accountability and health equity, communication skills, cultural and linguistically diverse population groups, motivational interviewing, conflict resolution and negotiation skills building, and professionalism and leadership.

In the Masters of Health Professional Education and Masters of Rural and Remote Health, Simone teaches leadership skills for health professionals, along with negotiation and conflict resolution. Simone is also the Coordinator for the postgraduate subject, Leadership in Health Professional Education.

Simone has a strong focus on student support mechanisms for the MBBS students and coordinates the Home Group program across years 1 to 3 (MBBS). This program provides an avenue for small group facilitated social, professional, and academic development.  With this focus of student support, Simone advocated for and now coordinates the Health Self-Professional Self Care Program (College). This program is focussed on helping students in their first, then consecutive years to build personal and study related resilience.

Simone is also the Coordinator of the Professionalism Education and Leadership Program (MBBS).

In terms of research, Simone has three strong fields of research. These are social accountability, student support, and professionalism and leadership. All three are concentrated in health professions education. Simone's recent PhD completion (2024) produced the first medical student leadership skills framework (www.medstudentlead.com.au). In 2025, Simone (the project lead) and team are completing the Towards Unity for Health Social Accountability Fellowship, working towards a Centre of Excellence for Social Accountability in Australia and New Zealand.
