Biography
Hannah Green completed a Bachelor of Advanced Science majoring in Ecology and Earth Science with a research Honours on sodic soil chemistry at James Cook University (JCU) in Townsville. Hannah has remained at JCU and is now in the third year of a PhD in soil chemistry focused on optimising the use of mill by-products for soil improvement and carbon sequestration. Hannah is interested in continuing to work on improving soils and sustainability in important industries in tropical North Queensland in the future.
Research
Research Interests
General interests are in soil and agricultural science, particularly applied research relating to the tropics. Passionate about various types of modelling paired with lab and field experiments.
- Improving agricultural efficiency and sustainability by improving soil management
- Carbon sequestration in agricultural soils through application of industrial by-products (sugarcane mill ash and mud, basalt)
- Impact of soil chemistry on carbon sequestration processes including enhanced weathering
- Modelling soil biogeochemical processes and crop systems

Teaching
Teaching Interests
I am enthusiastic about teaching environmental science, statistics, and mathematics to students in practical settings such as the computer lab, the chemistry lab, and the field as a subject tutor, as well as by tutoring students one-on-one in roles such as a Peer Assisted Learning Advisor at the Indigenous Education and Research Centre. I am particularly passionate about increasing the accessibility of education and empowering people through numeracy and scientific literacy.
