Biography

Dr Ana Barbosa Martins is an Adjunct Research Fellow in the Centre for Sustainable Tropical Fisheries and Aquaculture. She has a decade of experience on marine ecology and fisheries, with focus on understanding the spatial and trophic ecology, nursery areas, and fisheries management and conservation of sharks and rays. Ana did both her undergrad and masters in Brazil, and her PhD at JCU. Currently, Ana is employed as a postdoctoral fellow at the Integrated Fisheries Lab at Dalhousie University, Canada, working on a multiyear project that aims to unravel the global shark meat trade. Ana is a member of the independent review panel on the Important Shark and Ray Areas project, a global initiative led by the IUCN Shark Specialist Group, and a co-founder of TrackdAT, an open-source metadata portal to connect fish tracking research globally. Additionally, Ana collaborates on projects across the globe encompassing shark and ray spatial ecology, functional traits, meat consumption, nutrient composition, and cultural connections.
